mini ywam thingermajig

on monday the 10th ( yeah that's how behind i am) 'Tias and i went to corrientes to fetch a drama team from the ywam base over there. we were told that five were coming, so i decided to go with matias in the rover, since there would be room.

the base is on the outskirts of the city, in a little neighborhood called Piruyui which consists mostly of dirt roads. the base has slowly taken over the houses and land surrounding it due to expansion and married couples. pretty soon, they will probably take over the entire "barrio."

in good ywam fashion, seven more people crammed into the the back area of the car, and we drove just under an hour to the ministry destination. we went to a high school, where the arts team did dramas representing different subjects such as drugs/alcohol/partying, suicide, abortion, and the other usual drama subjects. after each one they would stop and actually explain and talk about it. it was interesting just being able to sit and watch, and observe a team doing outreach, and the kids and teachers as the audience. i could relate when the kids laughed during the somewhat serious dramas, whereas before if i had been performing i would have been appalled/embarrassed.

the team consisted mostly argentines, but a chilean, and canadian were included in the mix. the canadian, sarah, fell ill, and couldn't perform, so during the altar call i stood outside, and talked to her. she has been with ywam corrientes for three years, and is married as well. it's always nice to meet someone else to talk to and relate to. i was also happy to meet someone within the base staff, because i want to get involved there, but it can be intimidating try to break into such a close knit community when you are on the outside (not living at the base).

it took forever to take them back to their abode, because the one bridge that spans the river had an accident. it's only two lanes wide, so if anything happens (and it does... ALL the time), everything gets affected.

matias and i were starving of hunger... i am not exaggerating, so we got dinner at our restaurant, cristobal, and the waterfront. we shared a gigantic dish called "de amigos." basically it was fried goodness... meat milanesa, chicken milanesa (think chicken strips but super thin), fried mozzarella, fried rice balls, and fried vegetable-ness (i didn't eat those).

i sorta regretted the fried food overload, but i still slept well :)
